The morning of 17th May 2014, I arrived at MaTIC, on Jalan Ampang to join the FAM Program Sahabat Media Perak 2014. Its a program by mmode in colloboration with Tourism Malaysia to promote local tourism in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014 #VMY2014. It's my first trip and experience with this program.
Going Malaysian lifestyle, the organiser provide us Nasi Lemak with Sambal sotong before departing for Ipoh. Then it was a smooth journey along the PLUS North South Highway for the group of 38 media representatives and bloggers.
It has been quite sometimes that I did not travel and stay in a hotel ever since I retired from government service. Days of staying in a Star rated hotel was over since during my service all accomodations are paid for according to grade and qualifications. Being a retiree, with half the normal pay, to prepaid and claim later would be a stress on my wallet.
We reached our first destination, the Casuarina @ Meru strategically located within the Bandar Meru Raya, just next to the North South Highway, adjacent to the Jelapang Toll Plaza. It is just a walking distance from Terminal Amanjaya where Espress buses from other parts of Malaysia make a stop, and Mydin Wholesale Hypermarket Meru Raya. I did have the opportunity to visit the Mydin Mall and its a full pledge shopping mall away from the bustling Ipoh City.
Travellers along the North-South Highway can access the hotel through the Jelapang-Lumut-Chemor flyover heading towards Bandar Meru Raya. From South exit Ipoh Selatan toll plaza and North Jelapang Toll Plaza.
Our entourage arrived at Casuarina@Meru at 12.08 am (based on my Foursquare checkin) and we were greeted by the hotel management headed by the General Manager himself, Encik Malizan Hj. Zakaria.
We are entertained to a sumptuous buffet lunch as what other hotel guest were enjoying and not specially prepared dishes to please the media's taste bud to get positive responses in return. There are variety of Malaysian dishes, tasty and suits my taste bud.
Causarina@ Meru is a new Comtemporary Business Hotel with 150 guestrooms & Suites and is proud of her Amanjaya Convention Centre (AJCC), currently the biggest pillarless convention hall in Ipoh with a seating capacity of 3000 pax theatre style. The convention centre also provide up-to-date audio-visual and meeting aids.
The hotel is not a new kid on the block since it had been operating at Jalan Raja Dr. Nazrin Shah, in Ipoh city centre for the past 30 years. It is just a change of house and location but with the same warm service and hospitality. I had stayed at the previous Casaurina in the 90s.
Guestrooms features a modern contemporary concept, spacious and luxuriously equipped with modern features. This comes with warm hospitality as soon as one enters the very spacious lobby lounge.
We were accommodated in Deluxe rooms and even four to a room, it's still not too crowded since the room is quite large and comfortable. Put aside the new building feel of comfort.

While Casuarina@Meru will be star rated soon, pricing of meals is quite competitive. Buffet lunch is just RM20.00 and dinner RM3.00.
Another plus criteria for choosing Casuarina@Meru is that guest or visitors do not have to worry of getting caught in traffic since is sits at the brim of a very large roundabout which added to low density of other buildings.
