Sakura had been identified with Tokyo but now in Malaysia, the blooming phenomena identical to the Japanese Sakura has been a hit among photographers especially around Alor Setar.

This phenomena first gets it attention in 2014 when the Tekoma Stans Plant blooms and produce colourful flowers that beautify the landscape especially around Alor Setar City.

Tecoma stans is a species of flowering perennial shrub in the trumpet vine family, Bignoniaceae, that is native to the Americas. Common names include yellow trumpetbush,[1] yellow bells,[1] yellow elder,[1] ginger-thomasTecoma stans is the official flower of the United States Virgin Islands and the floral emblem of the Bahamas.

Tourism Malaysia Kedah took this opportunity to woo tourist to Kedah by organising a smartphone photography contest related to the blooming Tacoma plant. The contest will end on 9th April 2015.

The plant blooms only for about two weeks and if you want to catch a glimpse of the Sakura Kedah, now is the time when the school holidays is going on.

The blooming season nicknamed Sakura Kedah will be a new identity for Kedah in future when the flower blooms just for a few weeks. To make it a reality, Majlis Bandaraya Alor Setar made it compulsory for housing scheme developers to plant the Tekoma Stans and turn Alor Setar city into a Flower City.
