I have been there once and as the name given, it is a Pasar Karat because of the antiques and some of them is karat . Karat in Malay means rusted. However when the items on sale is karat, it doesn't mean the items has no value. Just pay a visit and see for yourself.
There is also another place besides Lorong Kulit in Penang that antique hunters can browse through collectible items. I visited another location in Alor Setar. It is at Pasar Mergong and on every Friday morning, antique sellers will congregate and display their wares to antique collectors.

The Pasar Mergong is located at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman (formerly Jalan Putra). It is located along the way towards Kangar. From Mesjid Zahir or, Balai Nobat, turn left into Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and drive straight past the Jambatan Manjalara. Pasar Mergong is located immediately on the left after the bridge.
