You want to experience all these at your backyard? Yes, you don’t have to plan a trip to any of the islands yet since this feat can be achieved within the confinement of a swimming pool. For unexperience individual who want to feel the experience of diving for the first time before venturing into open water diving, there is an opportunity available.
Scuba diving ("SCUBA" originally being an acronym for self contained underwater breathing apparatus, now widely considered a word in its own right) is a form of underwater diving in which a diver uses a scuba set to breathe underwater. – Wikipedia
I came across a scuba diving centre from while traveling on Facebook pages and found out there is a diving centre on mainland and coincidently the operator was my junior at Sultan Abdul Hamid College, Alor Setar, Kedah. So I decided to pay him a visit and see for myself how he run this adventure sport business in the area where competition is not very high or can I say that there is no competition at all in Alor Setar?. Maybe the whole of Kedah, Perlis and Penang.
The centre is ScuBAie Dive Centre located within the Kedah Aquatic Complex at Gunung Keriang and uses the platform diving pool as the training pool.
During my visit he is accompanying two guests who came from Georgetown for the Discover Scuba Diving Dive experience. Anybody who wants to experience the thrill of diving at this centre can rest assure that it is very safe because it is done in the aquatic diving pool. It means you can concentrate on the dives and forget about the lurking sharks, or sea urchins and other sea creatures that might scare or demotivate you, or the undersea current that might wash you to somewhere else. Besides the safe environment you will be accompanied by an experience diver who had graduated from Scuba Diving International (SDI)
The centre also sells diving apparels and if you are around Alor Setar and needs any information and advice about diving, just drop by the centre. If you plan to take the open water diving challenge as your adventure sports and need to prepare yourself before going to sea, this kind of place is a better training ground to gain water confidence and improve your diving skills due to its safety environment.

How To Go
From Alor Setar City centre you can either take:
1. The Jalan Anak Bukit (heading to Jitra) and at the traffic light junction of Pantai Johor (before Istana Anak Bukit) turn left into Jalan Gunong Keriang and drive straight until you reach the only hill around, that is Gunong Keriang. Keep driving along the road and parallel to the hill. Nearing the end of gunong Keriang, watch out for the signage to Muzium Padi Kedah. Turn left and drive for about 400 metres and turn left towards Muzium Padi. Drive past Muzium Padi and on the next junction, turn right. You can see the Aquatic Complex.
2. If you exit the PLUS Highway at Alor Setar Utara, drive straight all along Jalan Sultanah and into Lebuhraya Sultanah Sambungan towards Kangar. After crossing the Sungai Kedah bridge keep right and at the next traffic light turn right into Jalan Suka Menanti. Drive all along Jalan Suka Menanti untuk you reach Jalan Gunong Keriang. At the junction of Jalan Suka Menanti and Jalan gunong Keriang, turn left and follow the same route until you reach the Gunong Keriang. Then the above guide can be used, that is the Muzium Padi signage.
